Sean O’Malley (12-0-0)

O’Malley is the hottest prospect in the sport right now and for very good reason. His striking is dynamic, powerful, and he’s still making big improvements. He’s 4-0 in the UFC with his first two wins coming via decision over Terrion Ware and Andre Soukhamthath before facing some trouble with USADA. In the end, it cost him 2-years but the break proved to be vital. He transformed his body, rounded out his game, and he’s already finished Jose Quinonez and Eddie Wineland inside the 1st round in 2020. O’Malley will be looking to become the 1st person to finish Marlon Vera.

Marlon Vera (15-6-1)

Vera is only a couple years older but he has a lot more UFC experience. He’s 9-5 and he’s been competing in the promotion since 2014. He’s never been finished with all his losses coming via decision. He was on a 5-fight win streak going into his last fight with Song Yadong, but he ended up losing a controversial decision. Vera is very well-rounded with 4 KO/TKOs and 4 submissions out of his 9 UFC wins. He has a tendency to start slow but he makes excellent reads and he’s very durable. Look for him to be patient on the feet and mix it up in the clinch before going for a finish in the later rounds. With a decisive win, Vera has an opportunity to usurp all the hype riding behind The Sugar Show.

Prediction: Sean O’Malley via KO/TKO

This is the people’s main event. O’Malley has looked unbeatable since coming back from that 2-year hiatus but Vera is a huge step up in competition. Vera has never been finished and he could very well be on a 6 fight win-streak including 5 finishes. With that said, this is going to be a big step up for him as well. Sure he’s faced guys like Song Yadong, Douglas Silva de Andrade, and John Lineker; but he lost all those fights as well. Vera hasn’t beaten anybody with O’Malley’s skill-level and I would favor O’Malley over anyone he’s lost to as well. Vera’s going to get frustrated with the movement and once he gets reckless he’s going to get picked apart. Take O’Malley to extend his 2020 run to 3-0.
