Stipe Miocic (19-3-0)

Stipe won the last fight via 4th round TKO. He did excellent work to the body and ultimately finished Cormier with strikes to the head. He absorbed a lot of shots early but his cardio looked great going into the championship rounds. Once he found the body he ended it quickly. His wrestling is underrated and he proved that by getting his own takedown in the last fight. With a win, Stipe will have the chance to go down as the best heavyweight in UFC history.

Daniel Cormier (22-2-0, 1NC)

Despite losing the rematch, Cormier has won 4 of the 5 rounds between he and Stipe. He got a 1st round KO in the 1st fight and was up 3 rounds to 0 going into the 4th in the rematch. He marched Stipe down for three rounds and out-landed him by a total of 58 significant strikes. The damage was adding up but he couldn’t put him away and he couldn’t keep up that pace into the championship rounds. The small cage at the UFC Apex means less ground to cover and that should be to his advantage.

Prediction: Stipe Miocic via KO/TKO

Cormier has dominated the majority of this matchup but Stipe finished the last fight on top and I expect him to have the mental edge going into this one. He took Cormier’s best shots for three rounds and was still the fresher fighter going into the 4th. Cormier claims to have an answer for the body shots but his body is a big target and it’ll be there if Stipe wants it. Look for Stipe to mix up the target much earlier this time around and to do a lot more sticking and moving. Cormier will march forward and fight the hands but Stipe will make him chase and circle to create angles. Take Miocic to get it done.
