Derrick Lewis vs Aleksei Oleinik
Derrick Lewis (-190)
Aleksei Oleinik (+155)
Derrick Lewis (23-7-1)
Lewis is currently on a 2-fight win-streak via decisions over Ilir Latifi and Blagoy Ivanov. He’s a big heavyweight with big KO power. 18 of his 23 wins have come via KO/TKO. He’s a bit unorthodox and he mixes in high kicks and flying knees very well given his size. He’s a KO artist, but he’s also patient. He hasn’t had a 1st round KO/TKO in over 4 years; but he has had one 2nd round KO, two in the 3rd round, and another in the 4th round.
Aleksei Oleinik (59-13-1)
Oleinik is also on a 2-fight win-streak via decisions over Fabricio Werdum and Maurice Greene. Also known as “The Boa Constrictor”, there’s little secret behind his gameplan. He has an incredible 46 submissions out of his 59 career wins, and he can get it done in many ways. He’s the only fighter to ever pull off an Ezekiel Choke in the UFC, and he’s actually done it twice. He also has 8 career KO/TKO’s, including 1 KO in the UFC.
Prediction: Derrick Lewis via KO/TKO
Lewis is a tough matchup for Oleinik. Oleinik has excellent submissions but he’s struggled to find them against bigger, more powerful guys. He doesn’t have great wrestling and he has a tendency to barge in and absorb a few shots to get the takedown. It’s a strategy that gets you KO’d by guys like Blaydes, Overeem, and Walt Harris; and Derrick Lewis is very much one of those guys. Overeem and Harris were both able to finish via knees up the middle, so a Derrick Lewis-flying-knee KO is definitely possible. Lewis also has surprisingly good takedown defense and the ability to get back up to his feet. Take “The Black Beast” to get it done.
