Matt Mitrione vs Timothy Johnson
Matt Mitrione (-125)
Timothy Johnson (+105)
Matt Mitrione (13-7-0)
Mitrione is 4-2-1 in Bellator but he’s winless in over 2 years. Wins over Fedor and Roy Nelson had earned him a title shot but he ultimately got dominated by Ryan Bader. He then went to a no-contest with Sergei Kharitonov only to get knocked out in the 2nd round of the rematch. He’s an athletic heavyweight with good speed and power. He has 11 KO’s in 13 wins, and he’ll be looking to get back in the win column against Timothy Johnson.
Timothy Johnson (13-6-0)
Johnson is 1-2 in Bellator but he’s coming off an impressive KO over Tyrell Fortune as a +375 dog. His 2 losses both came via 1st round KO to Vitaly Minakov and Chieck Kongo. He traded wins and losses as a UFC heavyweight and left the promotion with a 4-3 record. He’ll look to win back-to-back fights for the first time in over 5 years against fellow former UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione.
Prediction: Timothy Johnson via KO/TKO
Mitrione hasn’t beaten anybody under 40 in over 4 years. He hasn’t beaten anybody decent in almost 6 years. Johnson is certainly borderline decent but he’s only 35 (compared to 42) and he’s coming off an impressive win over a 30 year-old stud in Tyrell Fortune. Johnson will be the bigger guy and I expect him to land the heavier shots. Neither guy has a great chin so don’t expect for this one to last very long. Take Johnson to get it done.
