Gian Villante vs Maurice Greene
Gian Villante (+190) (17-11-0)
This will be Villante’s first time stepping up to heavyweight in his UFC career. He is 2-2 in his last four fights, trading wins and losses. His last fight was almost a year and a half ago suffering a 1st round knockout to Michal Oleksiejczuk. Villante is a pressure fighter with a solid chin and his style results in extremely close fights; he has four split-decisions in his last five bouts. He’ll be seeking out a much more decisive victory Saturday night against “The Crochet Boss” Maurice Greene.
Maurice Greene (-230) (8-5-0)
Greene comes into Saturday night’s matchup on a 2-fight losing skid with losses to Aleksei Oleinik and Sergei Pavlovich. He’s a tall, rangy heavyweight with decent power. He switched camps from Factory X to Jackson Wink after the loss to Oleinik and it’ll be interesting to see how that works out. At 33 years old, he’s still only 8 years into his MMA career and he should be showing signs of improvement fight over fight. He’ll look to get his career back on track Saturday night against Villante.
Prediction: Maurice Greene via Decision
Greene has changed camps, Villante has moved up in weight, and you’ve got two fighters that are both 2-2 in their last four fights with some close decisions. On top of that, neither of these fighters has a ton of knockout power so expect this one to go to the judges. Villante does have a background in wrestling but don’t expect him to use it unless he’s really getting tagged on the feet. Greene’s size advantage and striking earns him a decision victory over Villante.
