Raquel Pennington vs Marion Reneau
Raquel Pennington (-180) (10-8-0)
“Rocky” Pennington has been around the block in the UFC women’s bantamweight division. At just 31 years old, she’s already gone up against the women’s GOAT Amanda Nunes, Holly Holm twice, Jessica Andrade twice, Germaine de Randamie, Meisha Tate, and the list goes on. She’s 1-1 in her last two fights after dropping a 3 round decision to Holly Holm earlier this year, but we’ll see if it’s an effort she can build on. Before that, she was able to pull out an impressive decision victory over rising contender Irene Aldana. She’ll look to get back in the win column Saturday night against fellow UFC veteran Marion Reneau.
Marion Reneau (+150) (9-5-1)
Reneau, age 42, comes in to this fight on a two-fight skid. She dropped a decision to Yana Kunitskaya last year and will be eager to get back in the win column. She’ll need an impressive victory over Pennington if she’d like to get back into title contention as she’s already in the final stages of her career.
Prediction: Raquel Pennington via Decision
Reneau has the experience and the ability to go toe to toe with Pennington. “Rocky” never seems to pull away with the fight either, which means this should be a close fight. With that said, Pennington has been a lot more active and has been going up against much tougher competition. She’s also been training alongside her partner Tecia Torres who will be fighting on this same card, leading me to believe she’s had a focused camp. I expect Pennington’s experience against the top of the top and her relative youth to help her edge out a tight decision.
