Jim Miller vs Roosevelt Roberts
Jim Miller (+195) (31-14-0, 1 NC)
Miller, age 36, is entering his 12th year in the UFC. He’s coming off of a loss in February to the UFC journeyman Scott Holtzman after going undefeated in 2019 with wins over Clay Guida and Jason Gonzalez. In both of his wins last year he was able to find a first round submission, and he’ll be looking for more of the same Saturday night against Roberts.
Roosevelt Roberts (-250) (10-1-0)
Roosevelt Roberts comes into this fight fresh off of a victory over Brok Weaver just three weeks ago. He was able to submit him in the 2nd round after going back and forth on the feet for the 1st round. He won’t be looking for any submissions in this one though; he’ll be looking to keep it at striking range. He has excellent length and will have a great advantage in the stand-up. His lone loss in his MMA career came in June 2019 by decision to Vinc Pichel. He’ll look to use his takedown defense to keep this one standing and to find a finish on the 12-year UFC veteran.
Prediction: Roosevelt Roberts via 2nd Round TKO
At this stage in his career Miller is really down to one good round of action and anything past that spells trouble, especially if he finds himself at range with Roberts. Miller will utilize his clinch game and takedowns to try and get this fight on the ground early. Roberts athleticism and experience should be enough to keep this one on the feet, and even if he does find himself on the ground I expect his defensive jiu-jitsu to be good enough to survive. Look for Miller to start fast but to wear himself out, and for Roberts to take control in the 2nd round and put him away with strikes.
